So come with us down the rabbit hole and find out what wondrous things await.
Wednesday 25th April 2018
On Friday 20th April Year 5 travelled back in time and spent the day with some wonderful Anglo-Saxons and some scary Vikings, at Tatta’s Ton (Tatton Park). Throughout the day we proved ourselves to be excellent Anglo-Saxons and learnt so many amazing things! Take a look at some of the images we manged to capture of our time there.

What a fun filled half term we have had! I would like to say a huge ‘Well Done’ to ALL the children in J6; everyone has worked so hard and kept smiling throughout all the exciting things we have packed in.
We have now come to end of our topic on the Ancient Egyptians – what fun we have had learning about them – and we are now looking forward to starting something new after the holiday. I would like to share with you a clip of the time-travelling adventure the children went on. Spinning back to 1922 they received a very exciting message from Lord Canarvan, explaining that Howard Carter had finally covered something in the Valley of the Kings and they were to set out immediately to have a look. You can see what happened when they got there!
Enjoy your holiday and I’ll see you all when you get back!

Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their continued support of their children during assessment week. We are half way through and the class are working harder than ever to show off what they can do!
We recently announced our trip to Tatton Park, on 20th April, the year group are very excited about this day out and preparations are already taking place. We understand that sometimes letters go missing in school bags or bedrooms so we have attached a copy for you to download (Tatton Park letter) and a copy of the costume ideas (viking-costume-sheet). If you have any questions about the day please get in touch.

Today Miss Shipley’s Maths group have taken learning their times tables and quick division to another level, by creating their very own ‘Snap’ style games. In groups they wrote a selection of tricky questions that would test their friends knowledge (making sure they knew the answer first!) then, when all the questions had been written, they gave it a go by following these simple rules.
- Shuffle all the cards and place them in a pile in the middle of the table.
- Take one card at a time and turn it over to show the question.
- The first person to answer the question and place their hand on top wins the card.
- If the question isn’t answered after 5 seconds a new card is turned over, this continues until a question is answered and the person who answers wins all the cards in the stack.
- The overall winner of the game is the person with the most cards at the end.

What a super first week back after half term. J6 have embraced their learning and really got their teeth into some fantastic subjects. In even more exciting news, we have got some fabulous visitors in school (with thanks to Eggsplorers) 7 very fluffy chicks! We have watched carefully as they hatched and have even been able to have a little cuddle of our new friends. Now we can watch as they grow over the next week!
Tuesday 30th January 2018
Once again I can proudly announce that J6 have been working hard and learning lots of new, amazing skills and facts! Despite the cold weather we have been braving the outdoors to take part in hockey lessons, these have been supported by a sports coach who has been visiting our school to work with year 5.
This week we will sadly be saying farewell and good luck to Mr Pratt and Mr Smith, our student teachers who have been working so hard with us since October, we wish them all the best on the next, exciting stage of their journey. They are more than welcome to come back and visit us any time they like!
Monday 27th November 2017
J6 would like to catch you up on a few of the exciting things we have been doing over the past few weeks.
Firstly, we have been learning all about the English Civil War and how it started. We have learnt about the argument between Charles I and Parliament that lead to the Civil War, through the capture of the King and his execution. But we didn’t stop there, we then found out that Oliver Cromwell took over the country as Lord Protector of England. Did you know he banned sports, colourful clothes and CHRISTMAS? We are now looking forwards to learning all about Charles II and his rule, we hope it goes better than it did for his dad!
We have also been on an exciting trip to the Rainforest Roadshow, that was hosted by Flixton Girls’ School. We hear all about some of the amazing and exciting creatures that live there. We got up-close and personal with some giant creepy crawlies including a scorpion and a bird eating spider!
On Friday 24th November we were very lucky to be able to take part in a golf taster sessions with a golf player from a local club. Even though it was a bit chilly we took to the playground with lots of enthusiasm and really enjoyed our session. We are looking forward to doing more super activities like this!

Wow! What a busy and fun time we have had in year 5 over the last few weeks. We have had amazing fun this afternoon with a very strange fluid – if we left it alone or moved it gently it was like water but when we grabbed it, rolled it or smacked it, it turned into a solid! It is called a non-Newtonian liquid – it is FANTASTIC!
Wednesday 13th September 2017
Happy Roald Dahl Day everybody!
We have had a great time dressing up as some of our favourite characters, reading some fantastic books and so much more.
