Welcome to the page of Class J5 where we work hard and play harder! Please drop by to see details of our fun activities, photos and information to help you and your children in their journey through Year 5.

One of our main themes in the Autumn Term is our study of Myths, Legends and Fables in Literacy. Which country (or area of England) is your child going to focus on ? During this term, they will complete a project on a chosen country, complete with facts about that country but also a myth or legend that is based there.

Later in the year, we will be looking at the Legend of the Mighty Beowulf as part of our studies of the Anglo Saxons. Hence the rather bizarre photo attached !

Reading

We ask that you encourage your children to read regularly and try to ensure that their reading records and books are brought into school every day, complete with any comments you wish to make. When completed, books will be changed by Miss Fazackerley.

Homework

This year, Year 5 will be trialling a new system of homework, based on selecting a number of tasks from a Homework Grid  (link below) including some from your child’s very own wish list. There are six activities to be completed in their Learning Log books before the end of the Autumn I half term and we would ask for your interest and encouragement in helping your children achieve this. We hope to post pictures here of some of the more creative ideas and designs from the children and – believe me – they have started flowing into school already ! Any questions, then please ask !
